Sam George the minister of communication has once again replied to Olele Salvador after he called him out.
According to Olele Salvador, Sam George saying the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation isn’t under his ministry is inaccurate.
Olele Salvador asserted that the Ministry of Communications is a direct stakeholder in GBC.
Olele Salvador on X wrote, “ To say GBC isn’t under your ministry is inaccurate—you’re Minister for Communications first. As a PSB, GBC falls under both Info & Comms Ministries. Watching it sidelined while a private media house thrives raises concerns about governance, transparency & press freedom.
Your ministry is a direct stakeholder in GBC as a PSB. When the state broadcaster struggles with outdated tech, it indicts your focus on tech & innovation—esp. When poor quality is why GBC is sidelined for a private broadcaster, seemingly preferred by the presidency”, he added.
However, according to Sam George, Olele Salvador has set his own question and written his own answer.
He added that Olele can believe whatever misinformation he is spewing and boldly reiterated his ministry has no mandate over the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
Sam George in a post on X wrote, “Unfortunately, I cannot help you further. You have set your own question and written your own answer. You can believe whatever misinformation you are spewing. The facts remain the facts. My Ministry has NO mandate over GBC. Thanks. 🦁🇬🇭”.
The back and forth between Sam George and Olele Salvador comes amidst some Ghanaians including Olele Salvador in the last couple of weeks raising concerns over what they label as the takeover of the state broadcaster’s role by WoezorTV.
Woezor TV is a television channel owned by the Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations at the Office of the President, Stan Xoese Dogbe.
However, Stan Dogbe in a Facebook post revealed that no Media House reporting from the presidency, including the state-owned GTV, has been stopped from taking live feeds from the Office of the President.
Parts of his post read, “So, why are they making the noise about WoezorTV taking over GTV or GBC as the state media? This is so that WoezorTV, which is not available on DTT either, would not lead the communication agenda of the Mahama administration”.
“Does it even make sense that WoezorTV will take over the status of GTV? Under John Mahama, GTV and Radio Ghana have more access to the President and the Presidency than under any other administration”.
“Today, GTV broadcasts live from the presidency, including all events of the president, just like JoyNews, TV3, Channel One TV, WoezorTV, GhOneTV, etc. Do you know why? Because WoezorTV opened the way for live broadcasts and live streams, the competition has become healthy and beneficial to the Mahama brand”.
“GTV also goes live with outdoor events of the presidency at a scale never seen in Ghana before, and that is because the presidency has created that convenient platform for them and other networks”, he added.
Meanwhile, Manasseh Azure has also stated he sees no problem if Woezor TV, like GTV, TV3 or JoyNews, has access to live feed and decides to stream live instead of making news out of events at the presidency.
He wrote, “If GTV, JoyNews and others have unfettered access just like Woezor TV, then there’s nothing to worry about. If they choose to record and play national events or events at the presidency, and Woezor decides to stream live, there’s no problem.
It would be worrisome if others were denied access to live broadcasts of presidential events and Woezor is given access because of its owner’s influence.
From what I know, programming, advertising and other commercial interests would not allow many TV stations to carry events live even if they have access. If Woezor has the space to do that, I see nothing wrong with it. A problem would only arise if access is rigged in favour of Woezor TV”, his statement added.
