Prof. Kwesi Aning a Security Analyst has weighed in on the Jubilation of some Police Officers after the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
According to Prof. Kwesi Aning, the outgoing IGP Dampare stood up for discipline and professionalism.
The new IGP Yohuno after his swearing-in visited the Police Headquarters and some Police officers were seen celebrating, and cheering his leadership.
There were even videos of police officers openly spraying money on the newly appointed IGP, signalling their excitement and approval of his appointment.
Some personnel of the Ghana Police Service are rejoicing in the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to the police officers, they have been yearning and praying for the removal of IGP Dampare for such a long time.
Reacting to the presidency statement, One officer, who was recording himself, stated, “At long last. The joy is all over, the joy is everywhere”.
“We are going to work. Right now, security is in our hands. This is what we have yearned and prayed for. We thank God… President John Mahama, God bless you. You have really listened to our prayers,” he shouted.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One, Prof. Kwesi Aning stated, “What it means is that this is an individual and an officer who has transformed the service and made sure that the corruption, the clannism, the network that allowed people to take the law into their own hand simply did not work again,”
“When you stand up for discipline and professionalism, you don’t make friends,” he remarked, highlighting the challenges faced by leaders who prioritize integrity over popularity”, he added.
Additionally, the information gathered suggests both senior and junior ranks of the Ghana Police Service were unhappy with the regime of former Inspector General of Police(IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
It has been revealed that senior and junior ranks of the Ghana Police Service compared his leadership style to a dictator and draconian leader.
According to reports, Dr George Akuffo Dampare was tagged by some members of the Ghana Police Service as Togebe Agorkoli, Nebuchadnezzar and Herod.
The special aide to President John Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari has also revealed why the President sacked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to Joyce Bawa Mogtari, President Mahama had to appoint a person loyal to him, especially when it comes to the safety and security of the country.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, March 14, at the Jubilee House has sworn in COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
