A Ghanaian who has chosen to remain anonymous has expressed surprise at Ghanaians making a fuss about a “paltry” $7M corruption case involving former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene.
Kwabena Adu Boahene was arrested on Thursday, March 20, 2025, upon his arrival at the Kotoka International Airport from the United Kingdom on a British Airways flight.
At a press conference on Monday, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, stated that Adu Boahene was arrested for allegedly diverting $7 million in public funds into his personal account.
According to Dr. Ayine, the funds were intended for the procurement of cybersecurity infrastructure, but over $2 million was allegedly laundered through real estate investments.
Reacting to the arrest, a netizen in a conversation with blogger Bongo Ideas wrote, “Well, my father conveyed to me that he isn’t astonished because a single act of embezzlement can yield $20 million, let alone a paltry $7M. The irony is, I wouldn’t have even reached out to you regarding this, but whenever I come across certain tweets, I find myself perplexed at how individuals still entertain the notion that the government can effect genuine change in Ghana. Given my observations and knowledge, even my father asserted that if the government were to operate with integrity and abandon its deeply entrenched avarice, he could unequivocally affirm that Ghana possesses the potential to be a truly prosperous nation.”
The young man who has been a beneficiary of his father’s long-term corruption is now a dual citizen of a prominent country, with the same applying to his three sisters.
“We are four children, and I’m the eldest and the only male. The other three are my sisters. My dad asked them which country, aside from Ghana, they wanted to be dual citizens of, and they mentioned it.”
The young man at this moment owns two fully built mansions, not in Ghana, and his younger sisters have the same. “The amount of money in our accounts is unimaginable,” he wrote.
According to him, corruption is in the DNA of Ghana and the canker will only end if God decides to be the nation’s president.
