A Ghanaian based in the Netherlands now a Dutch citizen Kofi Gabs has quizzed the minister of State for Government Communication Felix Kwakye Ofosu after he claimed taxpayers’ money will not be used in the construction of the Hajj Village project.
According to Kofi Gabs, which Airport will spend millions to build a terminal used once a year.
He noted that the Hajj is important but Hajj is not the priority.
Kofi Gabs further asserted that Ghana Airport which is state-owned takes a tax from every ticket purchased at the airport, so Kwakye Ofosu cannot say taxpayer money is not involved.
His comment comes after Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the minister of State for Government Communication revealed that taxpayers’ money will not be used in the construction of the Hajj Village project.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, not a pesewa of taxpayers’ money will be involved in the Hajj Village.
In a post on his official X page, Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the Hajj Village is an airport terminal building which is designed to facilitate the check-in and processing of pilgrims embarking on the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
He wrote on X, “The Hajj Village is primarily an Airport Terminal Building for check-in and pilgrim facilitation owned and being built by the Ghana Airport Company. Not a pesewa of taxpayers’ money involved”.
Speaking in one of his usual videos, Kofi Gabs stated, “Honourable Ghana Airport Company is it a private entity or it is State-owned if it is a private entity the executive President will not be the one to appoint its director.
Secondly, every ticket purchased at Ghana Airport takes a tax, do the tax go to the Airport Company because it is a private company or is it a State-owned company? So, the fact that you are saying the taxpayer money is not involved I bet to differ if I am wrong correct me”, he added.
He further stated, “Which Company built a Terminal at an international airport which will be used once a year because the Hajj pilgrimage happens once a year, how can you do this which can be used once a year?”
“After the Hajj which does not last for up to two months what happens to this terminal? Hajj is important but Hajj is not the priority”, he noted
According to Kofi Gabs, the Mahama government priority must be fixing the tidal wave affecting the people of the Volta region.
He added, “What is wrong is wrong don’t support it, tell me which Airport will build a terminal and use it once a year, if there is a sense in it tell me, let choose priority”.
Meanwhile, Kwame A Plus, the member of parliament for Gomoa Central has boldly stated he strongly disagrees with the controversial Hajj Village project.
According to Kwame A Plus, he strongly disagrees with the controversial Hajj Village project at a time when Agenda 111 hospitals are near completion and will provide essential healthcare services to millions.
However, the landmark project aimed at improving facilities for Ghanaian pilgrims embarking on the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.
A vision that began under the late President John Evans Atta Mills. The initiative continues the commitment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to enhancing the welfare of Muslim pilgrims.
