Video – NDC supporters attack party office in Dormaa East over Mahama’s DCE nomination

Some angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Dormaa East constituency have attacked the party office in Wamfie.

The NDC supporters vandalized party property and set it on fire over the recent nomination of the DCE by President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the supporters, they do not support the nomination of Osei Owusu King by the president, as he is not an indigene of Wamfie and has not contributed enough to deserve the position.

Additionally, some Irate National Democratic Congress (NDC) have stormed and vandalised the party office in Banda over the controversy surrounding the DCE appointment.

In the viral video shared by Metro TV Ghana,  the irate youths were captured destroying the party office.

A narrated in the video was heard saying there is no longer NDC in Obuasi anymore. They stated they did not want Pat.

This follows President John Dramani Mahama naming a new batch of District Chief Executives (DCEs) for eight out of the 16 regions.

According to a statement from the office of the president the appointment was made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), which are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen local governance and accelerate development.

The statement was signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.

The statement added that appointees must secure approval from their respective District Assemblies before assuming office.

President John Dramani Mahama upon assuming office revoked the appointments of all MMDCEs under the former Akufo-Addo government.

In a letter dated Wednesday, January 8, from the office of the president and signed by Calistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President revealed the information.

According to the statement Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, Assembly Members appointed pursuant to the relevant sections of the Act have been revoked effective today, January 8, 2025.

The statement added, “In the interim, the respective Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAs are directed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are duly made”.

Meanwhile, some netizen under the post have shared their thoughts saying, “ As OB of @Asempa947_FM said some days ago, in politics, there are those we use for political power and there are those we use for governing.

Until you know which side you belong to, you will never come to terms with some realities and how to manage your expectations. Know this and know peace 😂🤣”.

Another stated, “ At this point, we have to put the betterment of the country in the next five generations 😒 it is not getting better or there is no hope it will be better”.
