A video has surfaced on social media of Social activist Ralph vibing with Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament, Stephen Amoah after he was arrested for confronting the MP at the forecourt of Parliament.
In the viral video shared on Social media by SIKAOFFICIAL, Stephen Amoah was on his way to parliament for the 2025 budget reading when Ralph St Williams approached him making a recording on his phone calling him out over his failures.
Stephen Amoah calmly told the Police Officer in front of the parliament, “ he is attacking me, I beg you can you stop him”.
The activist later stated he was not attacking him while retrieving, “ I am not attacking you, sir, don’t say that, you have been attacking the government, I am asking you to be a citizen, not a spectator, I have distance my self away from you”.
He was later detained by police following the confrontation but was released later.
Ralph, speaking to reporters, alleges that his detention stems from his attempts to question the MP about his responsibilities and work within his constituency.
“I have consistently said that those we empower often use that power to intimidate us,” Ralph stated.
“There is nothing wrong with a citizen asking elected officials about their duties and performance. We have the right to question those we put in authority”, he added.
According to Ralph, the incident occurred around 4 PM at Parliament House. “They picked me up after the interaction. The MP claims he felt threatened, and the Ghana Police Service is acting on that claim. I respect their need to do their job,” he said.
Ralph expressed uncertainty about the specific charges against him. “I don’t know the charge against me yet. They simply said he felt threatened. I am waiting for the MP to clarify the reasons behind my arrest. My only aim was to confirm what he has done in his constituency.”
Ralph emphasized his belief in citizens’ rights to hold their elected officials accountable. “I want Ghanaians to know that we have the right to question the people we put in authority. If he feels that’s a threat, I don’t have any issue with that. I only wanted to ask him about his work.”
