The Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is set to seek further medical treatment abroad following a sudden illness.

The Vice President was rushed to to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, March 29, 2025 after a sudden illness on Friday night after work.

However, after administering the initial treatment, experts from the University of Ghana Medical Centre  advised she seeks further treatment abroad.

It is unclear when she will be travelling to seek medical attention, but she is set to leave as soon as possible to restore her health to normalcy.

This health update was disclosed in a statement issued by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

“We wish the Vice President a speedy recovery,” it read.

The government has not disclosed further details about her condition or the specific country where she will be receiving treatment.

Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is a Ghanaian academic and politician who currently serves as the eighth vice president of Ghana under President John Mahama since 7 January 2025.

The Veep has been said to be the one of the key persons behind the NDC’s victory in the December 7, 2025 general elections.

She previously served as Minister for Education from February 2013 to January 2017 under President Mahama’s first administration.

She is a professor of literature, and served as the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana when she took over as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.

She served as the Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa in Zimbabwe until her resignation in August 2024.
