Three people have been killed by gunmen in Gumyoko, a suburb of the Binduri District in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
According to sources, the unfortunate incident occurred when unidentified gunmen raided houses in the community on Saturday night (March 8, 2025) and caused the atrocity.
Security sources revealed that the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, opened fire, killing two people instantly and injuring two others. It is reported that one of the injured victims later died in the hospital as his wounds were fatal.
The other injured person remains hospitalized at an undisclosed facility and is currently receiving treatment.
The motive behind the deadly attack remains unclear. However, security officials suspect it may be linked to the resurgence of the Bawku conflict, which has already claimed hundreds of lives and caused significant destruction to property.
Authorities have yet to make any arrests, and investigations are ongoing.
His plea follows the recent surge in violence that has resulted in the deaths of about 56 people. The ongoing tensions have led to the imposition of a curfew in Bawku and its environs, with restricted movement between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
There have been several casualties, including the killing of children and families in the ongoing conflict in Bawku and along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
Despite intensified efforts by security forces to quell the unrest and safeguard commuters, armed assailants continue to unleash deadly attacks, deepening fear and uncertainty among residents and travelers in the region.
There has been an escalation of violence following the resurgence of a long-standing chieftaincy conflict, sparked by the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile.
Abagre fled Bawku after an arrest warrant was issued against him following his contested installation as chief in Nalerigu, a High Court ruling in Kumasi on October 17, 2024, nullified the warrant, allowing him to resurface.
