Security Analyst Col. Festus Aboagye (rtd) has tackled the Minority leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin over comments he made about some officers of the National Security stealing from the former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison’s home.
Afenyo Markin in a press conference accused the operatives led by Richard Jakpa of stealing.
Speaking to the press, Afenyo Markin called on President Mahama to leave a legacy by putting an end to the National Security raids.
He further revealed that the minority are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy.
Afenyo Markin stated, “President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. Let it be said that even if there were excesses in the exercise of executive power when you had the opportunity, you changed it for good. Own that legacy in your name. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy”.
“At the end of their raid, they found nothing. Unfortunately, some GH₵10,000 that was on the governor’s bed was missing. Some of these hungry foot soldiers, parading as National Security operatives, took the opportunity to steal. The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also not found, in other words, they stole them,” he alleged.
Afenyo Markin added, “We are a nation of laws. Even legitimate investigations must be done in accordance with the law. We are not against accountability, but we are against human rights abuses, lawless conduct, and security excesses. These acts belong to the past and have no place in our democracy”.
Speaking on TV3 on Saturday, March 22, 2025, Col. Aboagye (rtd) detailed, “Yes, politicians can pronounce themselves on some of these things but we should not politicize them, and then use those kinds of words. The fact that 10,000 cedis sometimes people are even saying it dollars or foreign currencies.
The fact that some money and jewellery got lost, is an allegation you cannot just jump several hurdles and conclude that it is the national security operatives led by Mr Jakpa who stole the money”.
He further added, “When I hear a lawyer of the calibre of the Honourable minority leader beaching the ethics, that because you have lost something that I came to your house I am the one who stole the item. When I have not been proven in any court of law and even the owner has not gone to any police station to make such a case.
“Why is Dr. Addison not coming out to tell us what happened? Why has he not gone to the police to report the loss of his cash and property and so on? Why is the honourable Minority Leader assuming the role of a counsel to Dr. Addison?” Col. Aboagye (rtd) questioned.
Col. Festus Aboagye added, “You see clearly that he’s using a lot of pejorative words. For instance, he says that the men were ‘hungry.’ Is that what Dr. Addison told him? That those who came there were hungry and they were looking for food?
“If Dr Addison told him anything, I don’t think Dr Addison described them as angry, not being paid and looking for opportunities to steal”
“Why is the honourable Minority Leader using these prerogative words to frame Richard Jakpa in a certain way?”, he said.
Meanwhile, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has stated that no money or jewellery was taken from the residence of Dr Ernest Addison.
According to reports the NIB has denied the minority leader’s allegations that they stole about 10,000 cedis and jewellery, from the the former BoG boss’s home household.
