Service Personnel to suffer Ghc100 deduction from February allowance

The National Service Authority (NSA) will deduct Ghc100 from the February allowance of all service personnel across the country.

According to the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) this deduction is to cover the cost of of the National Service cloth which has already been distributed across the country to service personnel.

It also added that, national service personnel who are on the SIC insurance scheme will be deducted additional amounts to pay for an outstanding four months of unpaid insurance contributions.

NASPA assured that any further updates on the matter will be communicated in due course.

The NSA has been under scrutiny for the past few weeks over more than 81,000 ghost names scandal.

President John Dramani Mahama has boldly directed that culprits of the National Service ghost names scandal be declared wanted and their assets frozen.

According to John Mahama some of the culprits of the NSS scandal have fled the country.

Delivering his first State of the Nation Address in his second term to Parliament on Thursday, February 27 stated, “I have directed that culprits be declared wanted and  their assets frozen. Such brazen stealing of state resources should not go unpunished”.

John Mahama assured the Ghanaian people his administration remains dedicated to fighting corruption and strengthening institutions to foil monetary mishandling.

According to reports, Kwaku Ohene Gyan was detained after he was picked up on Saturday evening February 22, 2025, but has since been released.

Kwaku Ohene Gyan’s was picked and detained following President John Dramani Mahama’s order to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to investigate the NSS ‘ghost names’ scandal.

81,885 suspected ghost names on the payroll of the NSS following a head count of active National Service personnel at the behest of the Minister for Finance as a prerequisite for the clearance of allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.

The information gathered reveals at least more individuals have been named as persons of interest in the NSS ghost name scandal.

Honourable Mustapha Ussif, Akufo-Addo’s first NSS CEO, Henry Nana Boakye a board member of the NSS, Gifty Oware, Kwaku Ohene Djan, Osei Assibey Antwi are among the 5 fingered in the NSS ghost scandal.

The public has placed more focus on the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah who according to reports oversaw the payment of some allowances into the accounts of 81,885 ghost service personnel.

The information gathered also reveals Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the NSA is currently on the run.

According to reports about 17 persons could likely be invited for questioning as the NSS ghost name scandal started from 2017 to 2024 when they were exposed.
