Speaking about the current chairman of the NPP, he indicated that it was unfortunate Stephen Ntim became chairman of the party at an old age. “Old age and illness stopped him from being so active.”

He compared them to the National Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) within the same period, indicating that there are stark differences between the two sets of chairmen.

“You know, what has affected the NPP is that we have had 2 successive chairmen who were not active. They have been unlike Asiedu Nketia and Ofosu Ampofo who moved from region to region or constituency to constituency,” he stated.

According to him, the NPP now needs an active chairman who will move the party, and match the NDC’s Asiedu Nketia.

“Now, the NPP needs a chairman who will move and move the party, and let the General Secretary sit at the national office and do all the administrative work. Because the 2028 elections will be a tough one. The party (NPP) is in opposition and you will need somebody who is resourceful and that is Wontumi,” he added.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its delegates congress yet to be announced has seen many candidates emerge to contest national executive positions of the party.

Aside from Wontumi, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson has disclosed her interest to contest for the National Women’s Organizer position.

As the time draws closer, a lot more people will come out and contest other portfolios of the party as well.
