According to reports, Nana Bediatuo Asante arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in the early hours of Saturday after he was secretly flown into the country on a chartered flight from the United States.

It will be recalled that there was a rumour alleging that Nana Asante Bediatuo underwent a 10-hour brain surgery in the US, Bediatuo was part of a delegation that accompanied President Akufo-Addo at the United Nations General Assembly in New York where he felt ill.

Reports suggest after spending nearly seven months abroad for medical treatment, Nana Asante Bediatuo was captured at KIA in a wheelchair, assisted by some family members of National Security operatives.

Sources at the airport revealed, that he was taken through the VIP section of the facility and appeared frail and visibly distressed.

A source from the airport stated, “He looked very confused and disoriented. It was difficult to recognise him.”

It is yet to be known whether his return was due to the John Mahama administration cutting his funding or at the request of his family to continue his care in Ghana.

The last we heard from the presidency about Nana Asante Bediatuo’s ill health was some months ago through a press statement released from the Office of the President, the scanty information stated Nana Bediatuo was unwell and being treated in the U.S.

Broadcast Journalist Kwaku Annan last year claimed Asante Bediatuo’s condition is getting worse by the day and has been moved to a different location and will not return to help President Akufo-Addo to do a smooth transition to handover because he is executive secretary to the president.

Meanwhile, last month, news emerged from the United States where he was receiving treatment indicating he is recovering faster.

The statement confirming his recovery stated, “He is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment. According to the medical team, Nana Bediatuo Asante’s recovery is on track, and we remain hopeful for his swift return to full strength.

We ask for continued prayers and support for him and his family during this difficult period. Further updates will be provided when necessary”.

The information also revealed Nana Asante Bediatuo is undergoing post-recovery therapy and also learning how to grip and walk with the help of therapists.
