Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has pledged to give the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) going into the 2028 general election a unified parliamentary support.
“I am ready to carry that cross with my colleagues in parliament so that the person who will win the flagbearership will come and meet a strong parliament to rally behind him or her for victory 2028,” he stated in an interview with KSM.
Addressing the current internal wrangling within the NPP, he called for all parties to put aside their differences.
“I agree with you that the branding will not be limited to a particular person’s face on the ticket but all across board. We will have to understand that our internal misunderstandings should be put aside. We went for elections and lost but we need to deal with our issues internally,” he added.
He advised other party faithful to be careful not to break apart the NPP with their grievances.
“In 1996 when we lost elections, the JH Menah group did not give up. After 4 years, they turned the corner from 61 to 104 seats and with a presidential win, and we carried it through for 8 years. We lost, came back again and did our homework and worn.”
“It’ll be easy if we have a collective spirit and it’ll be difficult if we’re individualistic. The essesnce of being in a political party is to govern and win power and let peope know about your ideology. If we keep fighting we will be in opposiion for long,” he added.
He reiterated his determination to lead the charge in parliament and bring the required change desired.
