Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology has fired shots at the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, the NPP want Ghanaians to eulogise traitors who betrayed the country.
He asserted that there is nothing like the Big Six as a lot of the Big Six were traitors.
The Minister for Environment detailed that some members of the Big Six were traitors who claimed Kwame Nkrumah was the instigator of the 1948 riots.
Murtala Muhammed noted that in one of Kwame Nkrumah’s books, he revealed he had nothing to do with the 1948 riots.
He revealed that Nkrumah was not even in Accra when they rounded the so-called political figures with some UGCC members involved who later said they had no hand in it but it was Nkrumah who masterminded the riot.
Speaking to GTV Murtala Muhammed narrated, “When we had the 1948 riots, it was as a result of the demand that was made by the ex-servicemen Ghanaian soldiers who were sent to fight in a war that had nothing to do with them, we had nothing to do with it, but because we were still under the servitude of colonialism they were sent to fight a war, and some promises were made of decent accommodation and some stipends.
When they came down, they refused to give them those things, so they demonstrated, they were walking towards the castle, and it took one very silly British military officer who instructed they should be gunned down and they were gunned down”.
He continued, “It was an upheaval, people started destroying the properties of the so-called colonial masters, which led to the rounding up of the so-called political figures at the time, some of the UGCC members, Nkrumah was not even in Accra, Nkrumah was at Saltpond when they rounded them up, they all said they had no hand in it but it was Nkrumah who masterminded the riot, that is what they said”.
The other five all said, including JB Danquah that it was Nkrumah who mastermind the 1948 riots. They arrested Nkrumah and freed them. Today because some people have attempted to rewrite our history, they claim this is the Big Six, there was nothing like the Big Six, a lot of them were traitors”, he added.
Murtala Muhammed further fired at those who wanted the country to eulogise those people who betrayed this country.
“If you read Nkrumah’s books, he indicated clearly, he had nothing to do with the 1948 riots it was an upheaval of the Ghanaian people because of what happened at the castle. Today they want us to eulogise those people who betrayed this country”, he emphasised.
Meanwhile, Lawyer and historian, Yaw Anokye Frimpong, has also disclosed that there is nothing like ‘The Big Six’ in Ghana’s history regarding the country’s struggle for independence.
According to him, the people who were arrested after the 1948 riots were members of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and were described as such.
The Big Six were Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah; Dr. Joseph Boakye (‘J.B.’) Danquah; Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey; Ebenezer Ako-Adjei; William Ofori Atta and Edward Akufo-Addo.
