The New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of parliament for Weija-Gbawe Jerry Ahmed Shaib has been fingered in an alleged land grabbing.
The information gathered claims Jerry Ahmed Shaib has been accused of unlawfully taking over a parcel of land at Tse Addo which has ignited disagreement and a prospective legal battle.
Reports suggest the land-grabbing allegation levelled at the member of parliament is being probed by the Proper Frauds Unit of the Ghana Police Service and comprises accusations of invasion and threats.
It has been revealed that the owner of the land filed a complaint at the Proper Frauds Unit accusing Jerry Ahmed Shaib of using land guards to hound and threaten them.
The complainant has also vowed to pursue legal action against Jerry Ahmed over frustration with alleged encroachment and acts of intimidation.
The case has raised concerns about increasing land disputes in Accra, particularly in fast-developing areas like Tse Addo.
In addition, another NPP member also fingered in a land-grabbing at Tse-Addo is the former Director of Operations at the presidency, Lord Oblitey Commey.
According to reports Lord Oblitey Commey has fragrantly disregarded a court order, preventing him and members of his staff from entering a parcel of land at Tse-Addo.
Giving little to no regard to the restraining order, Lord Commey’s staff ventured onto the parcel of land, behind the Ghana International Trade Fair covering an approximate area of 3.35 acres or 1.35 hectares, which he allegedly ordered his men to pull down and destroyed properties that were being developed on it.
The information available to the Inquirer points to the fact that because of the land, tussle the court issued a restraining order against the Plaintiff, Intertec Iconic Enterprise Limited, on 24 July, saying that “its Directors, agents, privies, assigns, workmen and all persons claiming through it is restrained from entering, interfering with and or developing the subject land pending the determination of the issues raised in the ruling.”
On the 25th of April, 2024 persons who are said to be land guards ventured into the construction site and using brute force, evicted construction staff and destroyed construction work which were completed.
The exercise by these persons according to information was under strict supervision of the police, military, and national security, who led the land guards to barge into the premises and forcibly evict construction staff after which they dismantled and destroyed all concrete foundations and pillars that have been erected for multiple houses under construction.
This led to a halt in the project, construction of homes being undertaken on the piece of land for potential buyers.
The company through its lawyers, LAW GROUP, stated that the incident appeared to have its origin in a contentious dispute over the ownership of the land and noted that, Mr. Hampton, Tsotso, and Mr. Razak IN June 2023, trespassed on the property prompting the intervention by law enforcement agencies.
