Former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has slammed both campaign team members of the party and the handlers of the party’s flagbearer in the 2024 elections.
According to him, these group of people failed to consult himself and other members of the party with a strong background in music and entertainment when choosing one of the prominent songs the party used to campaign leading up to the December 7, 2024 elections.
He indicated that the brand of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was marred just because such profane songs were played at rallies he attended and he was also made to dance to it.
Speaking in an interview, he disclosed, “Do you know that the song we just played ‘)w) sisi fia no bi’ is profane? This party (NPP) has people like myself, George Quaye and those of us who are into music are available but nobody will consult you on music, and they choose profane songs. Look at someone like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the kind of brand he has and we as a party will ask Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to dance to a profane song like ‘‘)w) sisi fia no bi’.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) going into the December 7, 2024 elections made the decision to use King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ and some of his other songs for their campaign. The party even went to the extent of inviting the artistes to most of their campaign events, especially the one’s held in the Ashanti Region.
Post the December 7, 2024 polls, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has poked fun at the NPP, using the ‘sisi fia’ line in the song as reference.
One instance was when Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the NPP’s ‘sisi fiaa’ campaign has resulted in ‘sisi fiaa’ Minority in Parliament.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that Sammi Awuku, Chairman Wontumi, and others claimed the NPP would win by strategy and that there are millions of ways to win an election.
According to him, the NPP campaign was a “sisi fiaa” campaign at the time Ghanaians were going through hardship.
The member of parliament added, “See the sort of campaign they mounted a song and dance campaign, a sisi fiaa campaign, no wonder they have ended up with a sisi fiaa minority in parliament. How was that a campaign of issues, of policies, what was at the center of the campaign it was all about sisi fiaa, with all sorts of gay-looking characters dancing and booging all over the place”.
“At a time when you have created unprecedented hardship, the people are hungry. If the NPP had minded to refer to the Afro Barometer look at the number of Ghanaians, who went to bed hungry every day according to the Afro Barometer”, Ablakwa detailed.
