Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, aka A-Plus, has poked fun at former President Akufo-Addo following his appearance at the 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House.
He took Ghanaians back on a memory lane to when President Akufo-Addo used to convey a special chair to every event he attended.
A Plus indictaed that now as a former President, Akufo-Addo does not transport his special chair but sits on ordinary chairs offered to him at events.
In a post of his X post, he wrote, “Not long ago, a certain man moved around with an official Toyota Land Cruiser, specially designated to carry his special chair. He believed his position was so mighty that even chiefs had to stand up to greet him.” “Fast forward a few months, the same man was spotted at Ghana’s 68th Independence Celebration—this time, sitting on an ordinary chair. And when the Vice President, a woman, arrived, he stood up to greet her.”
A Plus used the opportunity to highlight on the fact that power is transient, urging people walking in the corridors of power to always remember to stay humble.
He mocked former President Akufo-Addo, saying that he was fortunate to have been offered a nice chair by the ruling government.
“Life has a way of humbling us. Power is not permanent. Tomorrow always comes! Next time you’ll sit on a kitchen stool!”
In the last days of former President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, he was spotted directing chiefs to standup and greet him at a durbar. He received intense criticism for his actions but never addressed them.
Akufo-Addo was also said to have a special chair which was transported in a V8 vehicle to all events he attended in the country.
Although this was also condemned by Ghanaians, he turned a deaf ear, repeatedly taking the same action over and over. Even though questions were asked about the rationale behind the transportation of the special chair, no explanation was ever given by the presidency at the time.
