A social media user known as Oh Menua, has clearly stated that the Hajj Village is a fully funded government project
His claims are contrary to that of Minister of State of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu who claimed not a pesewa of taxpayers money is being used for the project.
According Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Hajj Village is an airport terminal building which is designed to facilitate the check-in and processing of pilgrims embarking on the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
He wrote on X, “The Hajj Village is primarily an Airport Terminal Building for check-in and pilgrim facilitation owned and being built by the Ghana Airport Company. Not a pesewa of taxpayers’ money involved”, he added.
In a different post, Kwaye Ofosu condemned the NPP for lying about building a Hajj village to only come and criticize the NDC for building a Hajj Village they claimed to have already built.
He further wrote, Here is the NPP claiming only last week, to have started the Hajj Village. Today, they say they are angry because the same Hajj Village is being built”.
“The Ghana Airport Company develops and manages Air Travel facilities for profit. The Hajj Village is one such facility”, he added.
Reacting to these claims, Oh Menua took to his X page to write that the Ghana Airport Company is the State Owned Agency funding the project, hence the project being 100% being funded by gov’t.
“Let’s be clear: Hajj Village is a govt-funded project, contrary to what Mahama claimed. No one is against the purpose of the project, but saying that no taxpayer money will be used is a blatant lie. The Ghana Airport Company (GACL) is 100% govt-owned, and it is the SOE funding the project,” he wrote.
President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a new Hajj Village.
The landmark project aimed at improving facilities for Ghanaian pilgrims embarking on the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.
A vision that began under the late President John Evans Atta Mills. The initiative continues the commitment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to enhancing the welfare of Muslim pilgrims.
