The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced measures to enhance vehicular access and curb unauthorized activities in the Adum PZ area, which remained unaffected by the recent fire.
This decision follows a devastating blaze at Adum Blue Light on Friday, March 21, which destroyed several shops. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly, working tirelessly to contain and extinguish the fire.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 23, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) outlined plans to improve accessibility and minimize fire risks linked to human activities.
To ensure effective implementation, security personnel will be deployed, and the ARCC has urged public cooperation. The initiative is scheduled to commence on Monday, March 24.
The ARCC stresses the importance of these measures in protecting lives and property, urging residents and business owners to comply with the new regulations for improved safety and accessibility.
A two-story building housing several shops in the central business district of Adum in Kumasi caught fire.
The fire happened at the popular Blue Light arena, close to Hello FM.
Reports suggest the fire started around 6 am and spread rapidly as fire officers made attempts to contain the blaze.
According to reports some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage their goods.
It has also been revealed that a shop owner had to be forced out, and at a point, a ladder was needed to evacuate him from danger.
The information available suggests Most of the shops deal in mobile phones and accessories, jewellery, and clothing.
An eyewitness account claims the fires started from a touching electricity pole in the area, leading to a sparkle on the top floor of one of the buildings.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service are at the scene but is facing difficulties accessing the building.
