President John Dramani Mahama, will embark on a working visit to the communities of Amutinu, Agavedzi, Salakope, and its environs in the Ketu South Constituency on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at exactly 2:00 pm.
This visit comes in the wake of recent tidal waves that have caused widespread devastation to these communities.
According to reports, the disaster has resulted in the displacement of over 681 individuals from 113 households, with many more affected by the loss of properties.
During his visit, President Mahama will engage with the affected residents, assess the extent of the damage, and offer support to those in need.
In a statement, the Volta Regional Secretary, Bright Kwashieman Ege indicated that, the President’s engagement is not only a gesture of empathy but also an opportunity for him to reaffirm his government’s dedication to addressing the challenges posed by tidal waves in the region.
“The government will work closely with local authorities, stakeholders, and the affected communities to develop a workable plan and implement effective measures to mitigate the impact of future tidal waves”, the statement added.
This planned trip comes after James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister spent the night with tidal wave victims in Ketu South.
According to reports, over 600 people are without homes in the communities of Amutinu, Agavedzi, and Salakope.
In a social media post, James Gunu clarified that his decision to spend the night at the provisional shelter provided for the victims was to better comprehend their struggles.
He asserted that is important for him to feel what they are feeling even as they formulate and implement the permanent solution.
James Gunu stated, “I’ll be spending the night with the good people of Agavedzi-Salakɔƒe-Amutinu. It is important for us to feel what they feel even as we formulate and implement the permanent solution”.
