Afenyo Markin made this known when he addressed the press on Thursday, March 20.

According to the minority leader, the National security operative stole valuables including cash and jewellery, from the household.

Afenyo Markin stated, “President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. Let it be said that even if there were excesses in the exercise of executive power when you had the opportunity, you changed it for good. Own that legacy in your name. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy”.

“At the end of their raid, they found nothing. Unfortunately, some GH₵10,000 that was on the governor’s bed was missing. Some of these hungry foot soldiers, parading as National Security operatives, took the opportunity to steal. The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also not found, in other words, they stole them,” he alleged.

Afenyo Markin added, “We are a nation of laws. Even legitimate investigations must be done in accordance with the law. We are not against accountability, but we are against human rights abuses, lawless conduct, and security excesses. These acts belong to the past and have no place in our democracy”.

Reports emerged yesterday evening that the director of special operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa has led about 20 armed men to raid the home of former BoG Governor Ernest Addison.

According to reports, the raid occurred on Wednesday 19 March 2025 at around 5 am at Ernest Addison’s home in Accra.

The information gathered suggests Dr Addison was home when Richard Jakpa and his 20 armed men wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles raided his property.

The National Security immediately disabled the CCTV system at the property and demanded Dr Addison lead them to the vaults in his house.

Dr Addison later revealed he had no vaults or cache of cash at home.

The information gathered also suggests the National Security operatives later allegedly ransacked the house with no vault being found and no large amounts of cash were found.

Jakpa and his team according to reports later decided to take the CCTV monitor and control unit with them after their search yielded no results.

Reports indicate Dr Addison, his wife, and their entire family are said to be traumatized after the raid.

“This is the first time in the history of Ghana that such a thing is happening to a Governor of the Bank of Ghana. This is both scary and messy,” A former retired senior official of the central bank, when contacted about the raid stated.

Richard Jakpa after leading National Security officers to raid the home of Ken Ofori Atta has yet again stormed another home of high-profile former appointees of former president Akufo-Addo.

Meanwhile, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has filed a lawsuit against National Security operatives, accusing them of trespassing on his Cantonments residence and violating his privacy.

Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General has revealed that warrants were procured to raid the home of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison.

According to the Deputy Attorney General,  the raid was done in accordance with the law.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Thursday, March 20, the Deputy Attorney General stated, “We take responsibility for the search that happened. We want to make it clear that those searches and the mode in which they were done were in accordance with the law. Warrants were procured and used”.
