Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the minister of State in charge of Government Communications has debunked media reports which claimed President John Dramani Mahama had ordered the National Intelligence Bureau to look into former President Akufo-Addo’s travel.
Pro-NPP Asaase news yesterday 28th March 2025 alleged that the NIB had commenced investigations into the official travels of the former President.
They further claimed the former chief of staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare was invited by the NIB to assist with the investigations into the travels of former president Akufo-Addo.
However, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has dismissed the claim made by Asaase News as false and urged Ghanaians to disregard the report.
In a post on social media, he wrote, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Presidency has not given any order to the NIB to look into President Akufo Addo’s travels”.
Akufo-Addo during his tenure in government was exposed by a member of parliament of North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa several times for hiring luxurious aircraft.
According to the NDC legislator, the trips on the hired jet cost the state £14,000 per hour and a cumulative ¢3.46 million.
Meanwhile, Asaase Radio claims that the Mahama government move is part of broader efforts to ensure accountability in the management of state resources.
They also noted that a source close to the Akufo-Addo described the directive as “a new low,” and added it was politically motivated.
