The acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Authority (YEA), Malik Basintale has boldly stated that President John Dramani Mahama has done what Akufo-Addo could not do.
According to Malik Basintale, he is a proud young man because his excellence in JM has made me proud.
He asserted that during the 2024 campaign season, he made some statements both on the campaign platforms on TV stations and his only headache was how they will be implemented.
Malik Basintale further claimed he had enough reason to start walking from work to the house because he could face anyone face to face.
Speaking on GHONE TV, Malik Basintale stated, “Yesterday I made a very strong case, that I will feel proud, henceforth I need to change my walking and walk “ahomas)”, because President Mahama has made me proud, I am a proud young man because his excellence JM has made me proud.
I feel proud, I am excited this morning, I will not lie, because the man has done what Nebuchadnezzar could not do, in biblical terms Nebuchadnezzar existed and in the last government Nebuchadnezzar existed”, he added.
The Basintale boy further noted that the NPP communicator during their term two days to the budget reading claimed there would be no haircut and bonds would not be slashed then at the budget reading they introduced a haircut.
He continues, “During the campaign, I went out there and made a solemn statement, after the election I made a point on TV that my headache now is for us to wait and see how we are going to implement it, the promise keeper who never fails has done what Nebuchadnezzar could not do and he has done it and done it properly.
I have enough reason to start walking from work to the house because I can face anyone face to face I am not shy. In the last government two days before the budget reading the deputy finance minister said the haircut would never come, the bonds would not be slashed then at the budget reading they introduced a haircut. It was a terrible situation for even their communicators”, he stated.
Malik Basintale’s comments come after the finance minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson delivered the 2025 budget to parliament revealing plans to scrap the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), the COVID-19 Levy, and the 10% tax on lottery winnings (betting tax).
According to Ato Forson, the government attempt to review the Value Added Tax system, and the government will also eventually abolish the COVID-19 levy.
Speaking during the 2025 budget reading Ato Forson stated, “Mr Speaker, we will abolish the 10% withholding tax on winnings from lottery, otherwise known as the ‘Betting Tax’; we will abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) of 1%; we will abolish the Emission Levy on industries and vehicles; we will abolish the VAT on motor vehicle insurance policy; and we will abolish the 1.5% withholding tax on winning of unprocessed gold by small-scale miners”.
“Mr. Speaker, the removal of these taxes will ease the burden on households and improve their disposable incomes. In addition, it will support business growth and improve tax compliance”, he added.
