Reggae artiste and media personality, Blakk Rasta has boldly tackled President John Dramani Mahama over his appointments.
Blakk Rasta asserted that setting up a leanest government is not only about ministers and deputy ministers, it involves and includes, all appointees.
According to Blakk Rasta, he is honestly worried about the number of people President Mahama appointing left right and centre.
He noted that President Mahama promised to set up the leanest government but appointments are flying all over.
The reggae artiste further stated, that President Mahama has cockroaches, lizards and mosquitoes in his government.
Speaking on 3FM Blakk Rasta stated, “I am honestly worried about the number of people President Mahama appointing left right and centre I am scared. In fact, cockroaches are being appointed, lizards are being appointed, and mosquitoes are being appointed, left right and centre.
Mr President let’s be honest and let’s have it straight if you have promised that we are going to have the leanest government, the leanest government is not only about ministers and deputy ministers, it involves and includes, all appointees for crying out loud”.
The reggae artiste further added, “I am sacred, the rate at which, appointments are flying all over the place is a way to satisfy some people who supported the campaign. When you pass here a cockroach has been appointed, a lizard is here, a frog is here then you check another corner there is a bigger reptile there that is also appointed.
It is a cost for an alarm”, he added.
The member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor has also claimed President John Dramani Mahama’s government is one of the largest in the history of Ghana.
According to him, although the government has appointed fewer ministers and their deputies, they have stuffed the presidency with numerous presidential staffers and advisors, increasing the number of appointees in government drastically.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, he said, “Mr. Speaker when you want to see the size of government and its bearing on the national ex-checker, don’t just look at the Ministers and deputy ministers, look at the government size holistically.”
“I want to submit that if you look at this government size holistically, the Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Presidential staffers, presidential aides, presidential advisors, President Mahama has formed arguably one of the biggest governments in the history of our government as it relates to the course of our national ex-checker,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has insisted that the number of presidential staffers at the presidency is fewer than 60, alongside fewer than 60 Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
The Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP disclosed that only 30 presidential staffers are currently working at the Presidency as against the 337 political appointees by former president Akufo-Addo.
“Mr. Speaker if you come to the Presidential staff, if you take out the civil servants who worked under the Akufo-Addo administration, there were 337 political appointees by President Akufo-Addo.
“As I speak to you, there are 26 presidential staffers and four Directors. If you put together the total number of people who work at the Presidency where I operate from, they will not amount to 60 yet they had 337 political appointees,” he noted.
