Founder and Leader of the Life Assembly Worship, the leader of Ghana Union Movement, Reverend Christian Kwame Andrews, known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has applauded President John Dramani Mahama for a scaled-back Independence Day celebration.
Speaking to the media during yesterday’s 6th March Independence celebration, Osofo Kyiri Abosom stated, “The way they are putting things together here I think it is good, we should continue to emulate what they are doing here in Ghana, because putting all these students in the scorching sun and everywhere.
The cost aspect is just a celebration, and for the leaders to share our ideas and we just move on. But I think on occasions like this, some of the political parties need to be listed even all, Presidential aspirants who have contested before to come and speak to the nation it should be left only to the president and the party in power”, he added.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom further added, “It is not only those people that we can get ideas from, I suggest that next time, they should bring some of them on board so that we can share ideas”.
Meanwhile, It has been revealed that the 68th Independence Day celebration that took place at the Jubilee House cost Ghana GhS1.5 million,
According to the Information Service Department, the event cost the country 1.5 million cedis which is only a one-tenth of what it would have cost to it at the independence Square.
President John Dramani Mahama during the 68th Independence Day revealed this year’s scaled-back Independence Day celebration has saved the country 95% of the original budget.
According to John Mahama, the modest durbar was held due to Ghana’s economic hardship.
John Mahama revealed that a budget of GHC20 million was proposed for the event if it were to be hosted at Independence Square.
He added that hosting the event at the Jubilee House ultimately saved an impressive 95% of the original budget.
Mahama emphasised the move was necessary as they aimed to manage public funds responsibly.
President Mahama further acknowledged the sacrifices the country is making to manage its financial difficulties.
He further added that his government will prioritise the welfare of Ghanaians during a time of economic hardship and find ways to resolve the challenges confronted with the masses.
