The Kumasi Judicial Court has once again remanded Daniel Tuffour, a final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), as investigations continue into his alleged involvement in the death of his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani.
At his second court appearance, prosecutors informed the court that the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for advice.
Pending the Attorney General’s recommendations, prosecutors requested that Tuffour remains in custody—a request the court granted.
The case has been adjourned to April 1, 2025, by which time the Attorney General’s advice is expected to guide further proceedings.
Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s body was found on campus early that morning. The university’s security service alerted authorities, who reported the incident to the police.
The two were in a romantic relationship at the time of Joana’s death. Tuffuor appeared before the Prempeh District Court, where prosecutors requested his remand to facilitate further investigations into the matter.
Daniel Tuffuor, the prime suspect was arrested and held at the Research Hills police station, KNUST assisting with investigations.
CCTV footage allegedly captured the moment when the suspect, identified as Joana’s boyfriend and a fellow KNUST student, as well as an alumnus of Prempeh College, engaged in a violent confrontation with Joana.
During the altercation, Joana fell to the ground. After realizing she was unresponsive, the suspect, Joana’s boyfriend, allegedly relocated her body to the university’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre, where she was later discovered.
Reports also indicate that the suspect wrote his mid-semester exam this morning wearing the same outfit seen in the CCTV footage of the altercation that led to Joana’s death.
The reports suggest her lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025.
