Making his second court appearance, the public prosecutor told the court that the case docket had been sent to the Attorney General’s office for recommendation.

The prosecution, therefore, demanded that the accused remain in detention, a request the court granted.

The case has since been adjourned to April 1, 2025, by which time the Attorney General’s advice is expected to be ready.

The statement from KNUST reads, “The prosecution team handling the murder case of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani has filed an amended charge sheet and an autopsy report before the court.

During today’s proceedings, the court noted that the prosecution has yet to receive advice from the Attorney-General’s Office regarding the case As a result, the court has directed the police prosecution team to liaise with the Attorney-General’s Office to facilitate a speedy trial. Master Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student and the prime suspect in the alleged murder of his girlfriend, has been remanded for the second time.

The case has been adjourned to April 1, 2025, to allow for the Attorney-General’s advice to be received and further legal processes to continue The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology remains committed to ensuring that justice is served in a manner that meets the expectations of the bereaved family and all stakeholders”, the statement stated.

Meanwhile, Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s body was found on campus early that morning. The university’s security service alerted authorities, who reported the incident to the police.

The two were in a romantic relationship at the time of Joana’s death. Tuffuor appeared before the Prempeh District Court, where prosecutors requested his remand to facilitate further investigations into the matter.

Daniel Tuffuor, the prime suspect was arrested and held at the Research Hills police station, KNUST assisting with investigations.

CCTV footage allegedly captured the moment when the suspect, identified as Joana’s boyfriend and a fellow KNUST student, as well as an alumnus of Prempeh College, engaged in a violent confrontation with Joana.

During the altercation, Joana fell to the ground. After realizing she was unresponsive, the suspect, Joana’s boyfriend, allegedly relocated her body to the university’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre, where she was later discovered.

Reports also indicate that the suspect wrote his mid-semester exam this morning wearing the same outfit seen in the CCTV footage of the altercation that led to Joana’s death.

The reports suggest her lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025.
