Samson Lardy Anyenini a renowned legal practitioner and broadcaster has tackled President John Dramani Mahama over his appointment of the Member of Parliament (MP) of Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, to the Board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
According to Samson Lardy Anyenini, It is wrong for members of parliament to be appointed to public boards.
He asserted that when members of parliament are appointed to public boards how do they oversee that institution?
Speaking at the Constitutional Day Lecture organised by the One Ghana Movement on February 28, 2025, Samson Lardy stated, “It is wrong for parliamentarians to be appointed to public boards because they are overseeing those institutions. When you make them board members, how do they oversee that institution?
“Just two days ago, the president appointed Isaac Adongo to the Bank of Ghana board. If the Bank of Ghana does wrong, he’s supposed to oversee them. How is he going to do it? So, this is the problem”.
Samson Lardy Anyenini further spoke about corruption in Ghana being so endemic.
He, added, “Corruption in Ghana is so endemic, it’s so bad. And we have to point at politicians because that’s where the grand corruption is. And I like to use this example, and it’s real, that a school is built, and it’s supposed to have been built for how many millions? A little rain, storm, wind, it’s gone and pupils may die.
“A politician has pocketed the money. The road is done, and they tell you just a kilometre costs how much?
The rains come, and the road is washed away. It happens only here; it won’t happen anywhere else. So, the people who drive that kind of corruption are the politicians,” he said.
Meanwhile, Isaac Adongo, a member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama’s advisors thought he was above the Deputy Minister position.
Isaac Adongo asserted that he would have accepted a Deputy Minister if he had been offered to him by the president.
According to Isaac Adongo, he was really expecting to be appointed minister by President John Mahama.
His comments follow concerns from some of his constituents, who believe President John Dramani Mahama has snubbed in his ministerial appointments.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Thursday, February 27, Isaac Adongo revealed, “I was really expecting to be made a minister,” he stated. “However, the advisors of the President thought I was above the position of Deputy Minister, but I would have accepted the role if Prez John Mahama had offered it to me.”
