President John Dramani Mahama has revealed Immorality and crime would be worse in Ghana without the Church.
John Mahama noted that there has always been an argument that over 90% of the population identifying as people of faith, immorality and crime are on the rise.
According to John Mahama, immorality and crime in Ghana without the presence of the church, the situation could be far worse,
John Mahama asserted to the church a crucial role in upholding moral standards and guiding society.
Speaking at Mahama worships with the clergy in the Ashanti region, President John Dramani Mahama stated, “There’s an often-heard argument that while more than 90% of Ghanaians profess to be persons of faith, immorality and crime are on the rise. And my answer to such people who make that argument is that the situation would probably have been worse if there was no church”.
“Because consider that there was no church and people could do whatever they wanted. The situation would have been worse. And so the churches are doing their best”, he added.
John Mahama added the need to foster unity among Christian denominations alluding to the fact that a divided church weakens the church’s impact.
He added, “It is essential to emphasise the importance of fostering unity among Christian denominations. A divided church weakens its impact”.
“But a united church can transform society. Let us work together to build a vibrant and influential Christian community that speaks with one voice on issues of national development”, John Mahama emphasized.
Meanwhile, at the event, John Mahama also revealed that the former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia called him while he was still asleep to concede defeat in the 2024 elections.
According to John Mahama, he never thought he would win so early but had expected to win in a few days.
John Dramani Mahama stated, “When we voted that evening, at 9 am in the morning everything was done, who would have thought in the morning, I thought it would have taken like three days and we would be waiting for the Electoral Commission?
In the morning I was asleep, and they called me, they told me my brother wanted to talk to me, and said which of my brothers, they said your brother Vice President Bawumia, I told them to give me one minute, I went to the bathroom and came back to take my phone”, he added.
He continued, “I saw my brother was the one on the phone, he said my senior brother, I am calling you to tell you that, the battle was good, but with how things are going you have won, so I was calling to give you the best wishes, as I have spoken to you I am going to talk to the media, and I will inform them that you won the elections”.
