Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa has heaped praises on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to Kofi Bentil, IGP Dampare has been great at his job and should have been retained for all our sakes.
He further warned against repeating past political missteps of the Akufo-Addo government like the dismissal of former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “This IGP has been great at his job and should have been retained for all our sakes. But even if President Mahama wants to repeat the mistakes of NPP, he should at least signal that he accepts the rule of law and wait for the Supreme Court to rule.
“We hope Ghana will see the promised reset instead of repeating the sins of the NPP in worst form,” his post added.
The founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has also warned President John Mahama against the potential removal of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to Franklin Cudjoe, there are a few good men in the Police Service and once they are found they must be kept.
He further insists President Mahama must prioritize professionalism instead of extreme partisanship.
In a post on Facebook, Franklin Cudjoe wrote: “It would be sad if someone who has been a true professional, risen through the ranks and changed the face of policing, enhanced our nation’s security, and crucially survived all daggers from within and outside the service would be relieved of his position without any adverse findings.
“We must insist on professionalism instead of extreme partisanship. There are few good men. Keep them when you find them”, he added.
Meanwhile, the information gathered from pro-NPP radio station Asaase FM has claimed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare has been sacked from his position.
In a post shared by the Asaase radio official page, they boldly declared that the IGP has been sacked, and more details will be followed.
The IGP’s position has been in question by some Ghanaians after the new government took office publicly.
There is however a commotion on social media after the Asaase radio reports.
Some Ghanaians have questioned the authenticity of the news and seeking official confirmation.
A X user stated, “I will find it extremely difficult to understand any GOOD REASON why the government would remove IGP Dr. Dampare. Look! Dr. Dampare is the IDEAL IGP. My ENERGY & his momentary interaction on February 28 at Alisa Hotel, Accra, was profound. Just the peripheral FORCEFIELDS were HUGE and POSITIVE.”
“Why was Dampare sacked?” one user quizzed.
Another user called on the Police service to arrest the media outlet for spreading misinformation, “ @GhPoliceService, arrest them for spreading falsehood. spreading misinformation is a crime @tv3_ghana@EOCOghana
Meanwhile, IGP Dampare has five more years before reaching the mandatory retirement age.
