According to Mcdan if the NPP government helped him so should he remain selfish when government policies are not helping the private sector.

His comments come after he was criticized by a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko after some remarks he made at the Ghana CEO-Presidential Gala Dinner on 7 November 2024 in Accra publicly criticized the government for neglecting the private sector.

The CEO of McDan Group “I will be very blunt; government policies have really not helped the private sector. That is where we are sitting right now, and we have to be frank about it,”

“If you want to do business in Ghana, you have to be prepared. Being a Ghanaian doing business in Ghana, you have to be brave,” he stressed.

Reacting to McDan comments about government policies not helping the private sector, Gabby Otchere-Darko communicated astonishment. According to Gabby’s statement on X, Mcdan has enjoyed the full support of the government and owns the largest salt concession in Africa.

Gabby’s statement on X reads, “I am perplexed! This is from an entrepreneur who enjoyed the full support of govt to own the largest salt concession in Africa, with the capacity to produce some $2bn of salt annually; a project that for 45yrs various govts failed to commercialise. Aghast!”.

Additionally, former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi has chided the Founder of McDan Group of Companies, saying he is not a card-bearing member of the NPP but has massively benefitted from the NPP government more than even real members.

According to him, McDan’s Boss’s statement against the support of the NPP government to Private Sector operators, comes as a shock to the whole NPP fraternity, because, he has enjoyed a calculated over $200 million contracts from the government since 2017.

He said even card-bearing businessmen of the NPP have not seen such support as McDan has.

Mcdan in the latest interview with Oyerapa TV stated, “Gabby twisted what I said, what I actually said was in my 30 years…, on the panel the host posted a question to Mcdan, You are a big entrepreneur, you are a big businessman has government policies helped your business?

And I said no, I spoke and I refer that, in my 30 years of being an entrepreneur government policies have never helped the private sector, that was my answer, I don’t know if he really listened”, he added.

Mcdan further added, “What I did, I talk about some ministers who are not listening to the private sector the businessmen. So, he just picked out of context that I was talking against the NPP government”.

“It is the government that has to help the private sector, so if anything at all, if a policy is not good for the private sector or if NPP have helped me should I be selfish? I cant be selfish not to talk about the right things, I am not the kind of a person, well you can say so but we need to criticize what is wrong.

We have to help politicians we have to help the government to put on the right policies, that day when I said that Bawumia was there”, Mcdan added.
