Ghanaians on social media are firing shots at the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin after he revived calls for the establishment of a new Parliamentary chamber and a hospital purposely for members of parliament.
According to a netizen, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin wants to live in total luxury at the expense of Ghanaians suffering in the country.
The netizen noted that Ghana as a country has wasted so much money which cannot be accounted for and the economy is hanging on a thin thread but Afenyo Markin is still proposing ways to spend money irresponsibly again.
Afenyo Markin speaking at the inauguration of the Parliamentary Service Board for the ninth Parliament on Monday, March 17 stated, “Indeed, when I visited the British Parliament, even within the chamber, there is enhanced security. Here in the public gallery, anybody at all can throw anything at an MP, and there is no security.
“Mr. Speaker, I am therefore looking forward to an enhanced security regime, and I am pleased to depart from this infrastructure. We can begin a conversation for a new chamber befitting the legislative arm of government”.
“The speaker, there are two things that I look forward to seeing happen in the ninth government. One, is a hospital for parliament. If it does happen in accordance with your vision, it will be a great aspect. We are in the political class. Our health issues are to be known within certain confines. Because of confidentiality at all people travel abroad at great causes for medical support”, he added.
Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, rejected the proposal by the Minority Leader, citing the current financial crisis of the state as the reason.
“I definitely don’t believe that a hospital is the priority of this Parliament, or should be the priority of this Parliament. Mr. Speaker, we are very close to the Ridge Hospital, which I personally believe is adequate to provide the services that the staff here will need.
And I don’t believe that at this stage in the finances of this country, we should have the political class building a hospital, especially for itself, and not wanting to mingle with ordinary Ghanaians and the facilities that they use.
“So I totally reject a proposal to construct a hospital for Parliament. We have a clinic which is in keeping with what most establishments have. And I believe that if anything at all, we should just improve upon the facilities and services of our clinic that provide basic services and when you need serious medical care, you can use the facilities at the Ridge Hospital. Korle Bu is not too far away from here”, he stated.
Although Afenyo Markin’s proposal was opposed by the majority leader, his comments have ignited Ghanaians who have expressed their outrage at his proposal.

Ah, so Afenyo Markin thought that Dr Ato Forson who is busily forcing everyone to adhere to fiscal discipline and cut expenditure would release money for a new parliament and parliamentary hospital? Ei 😂

Whatever happens, no matter the situation in Ghana, when you ever see Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin on the ballot for President, fleeeeeee.
Nothing is more dangerous for our democracy than a certain idea that some people belong to a class separate and above the rest of…

Report it well wai. Amidst the economic turmoil we’re in and all the cost cutting measures govt is implementing, Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader is strongly pushing for Parliament to construct a new chamber and hospital exclusively for parlimematarians. https://t.co/ZWoj9x7XRI

Afenyo-Markin looked at how a virus operates in the human body and decided to embody it as a character.
This “ɔha adwen oo” persona might impress you, but it does nothing for me. https://t.co/8R3h3hkmI2— 𝖐𝖔𝖇𝖇𝖞 – 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒆 (@KobbyKiko) March 17, 2025
Why does Afenyo Markin keep using the term ‘political class’ and feel like they deserve superior treatment from the rest of Ghanaians? We know some people are above the law, but should you keep saying it out loud?

I blame the people of winneba that keeps voting for that idiot! He’s so stupid and full of himself. I’ve seen stupid politicians but not as stupid as that man. How did he even manage to become an mp?

It’s deeply troubling how Afenyo Markin is so determined to separate the so-called “political class” from the ordinary Ghanaian. His obsession with this divide exposes a blatant classist mindset, one that has no place in leadership. This is a caution to his constituents.
