Speaking to the press on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Sam George explained that the affected staff were hired without adhering to proper procedures, creating inefficiencies within the ministry.

He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the ministry operates efficiently and in line with established protocols.

“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalization is ongoing”.

The minister further revealed that the rationalization process is part of a broader effort to streamline operations within the ministry and its agencies.

He expressed his determination to “clean up the ministry to make sure that it is lean and efficient and carries out its works.”

Heads of government institutions have been ordered to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.

This directive came from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

The directive was contained in a circular dated February 10, 2025, and addressed to all Heads of Government Institutions.

Reacting to Sam George’s press conference, Davis Ansah Opoku stated, “I think the minister is overstepping his bounds, and I wonder if this whole resetting is necessary to the extent that people whose employment dates back before December 7 are even getting their employment terminated.

These are not political appointments; these are persons who went through the proper HR processes as laid down in these various agencies and got employed. So what precedent are we setting in this country?” he questioned.
