Daniel Domelevo the former Auditor-General has called on Ghanaians to be a little bit patient with the Operation Recover All Loots reports.
According to Daniel Domelevo, Ghanaians have been quizzing when there is going to be an arrest and prosecution.
He asserted that it is premature for people to call for arrest and prosecution because all the ORAL team did was gather information.
Speaking in an interview, Daniel Domelevo stated, “I have had some engagement with the AG, and I think his line of thought is so much in sync with mine. He thinks that we may have to leverage more on the audit. So people are asking when are there going to be prosecutions or when are there going to be arrests.
“I think it is premature. People should understand that all we did was gather information. We have not even heard from the other side”, he added.
“Ghanaians should be a little bit patient. This process cannot be rushed unduly, otherwise, we will falter when we get to court. They should give the AG and maybe the Auditor-General some breathing space so that these cases can be referred to the Auditor-General to conduct a value-for-money audit and also a compliance audit to see if they comply with the laws and regulations.
If there were some losses, then the Auditor-General can activate his mandate to disallow and surcharge,” he stated.
On February 10, 2025, the ORAL team submitted their final report to President John Mahama, who has since directed the Attorney General for further actions.
The chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that with just 36 cases, Ghana can potentially recover $ 20.49 billion in stolen state resources.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has stated every pesewa recovered from Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) will be channelled back into national development.
According to John Mahama, the recommendations of the report will be carefully studied, and where legal action and investigations are needed, they will be pursued without fear or favour.
He also boldly declared Ghana is no longer a safe haven for corruption.
According to John Mahama, those who think they can defraud the state and escape justice, Ghana is no longer a safe haven for them.
Meanwhile, Bright Simons, the Honorary Vice President of IMANI-Africa has said for Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) to succeed it must be a a genuine effort to uphold justice, not a political tool.
According to Bright Simons, there is a palpable sense of excitement among Ghanaians regarding Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL).
Bright Simons noted that many Ghanaians are excited that public funds that may have been looted or misused will be recovered.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile show on Saturday, “There is a palpable sense of excitement among Ghanaians regarding ORAL,”
“The idea that public funds that may have been looted or misused will be recovered resonates strongly with many people, especially in these challenging economic times.”
“For ORAL to succeed, it must be seen as a genuine effort to uphold justice rather than a political tool”, he added.
