Legal practitioner and Historian, Kwame Anokye Frimpong have shockingly exposed the former president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo over claims he is related to the late Dr. John Boakye Danquah, popularly known as JB Danquah.
According to Kwame Anokye Frimpong, Akufo-Addo’s claims his uncle built the University of Ghana are two lies.
He asserted that the late JB Danquah knew nothing about the University of Ghana and also he was not related to Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on Onua TV, Kwame Anokye Frimpong detailed, “Akufo-Addo claims his uncle JB Danquah built the University of Ghana, there are two lies there, the first one JB Danquah knows nothing about the University of Ghana, and the second lie is that Akufo-Addo is not related to JB Danquah.
JB Danquah was born on 21st December 1895 in Kwehu Bepong his father’s name is Yaw Boakye, and he used to play the drum at Amoako Atta III palace, his mother is Frimpongmaa, his father married two wives and his senior wife was the one from the palace that gave birth to Ofori Atta I that became a king, his younger wife child was the one known as Dr JB Danquah”.
He continued, “So I beg, Nana Akufo-Addo is from the house all right but has no relationship with the stool, and they have come together to claim he has a chieftaincy stool there, in fact during the time in politics when he lost everything that he was at home doing nothing, the Okyenhene took pity upon him and they gave him an honorary title. That is the Twafohene that was given to him.
He is not an Akufo-Addo relative, so whenever he says my uncle my uncle I just sit quietly looking at him”, Kwame Anokye Frimpong added.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, March 9, 2025, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) marked the 60th Remembrance Service of Dr. John Boakye Danquah, popularly known as JB Danquah.
JB Danquah was a key figure in Ghana’s political history who contested Dr Kwame Nkrumah in the April 1960 presidential election but lost.
JB Danquah on October 3, 1961was arrested under the Preventive Detention Act on allegations of plotting a coup to subvert the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and assassinate Dr. Nkrumah.
He was released in June 1962 and was later elected President of the Ghana Bar Association.
In January 1964 JB Danquah was arrested again without formal charges and was detained at the Nsawam Medium Prison.
JB Danquah died in February 1965 at the age of 69 while still in prison custody.
After Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP were overthrown in February 1966 by the National Liberation Council (NLC), he was buried by the state in recognition of his contributions to the country.
