Albert Nat Hyde commonly known as Bongo Ideas has boldly stated the outgoing Inspector General of Police(IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare did not deserve to be removed.
According to Bongo Ideas, IGP Dampare did a good work aside from politics he did not serve to be removed.
He noted that under the IGP Dampare, there was lower crime, the restoration of police integrity, and timely promotion of officers among others.
Bongo Ideas wrote, “ Under IGP Dampare:
- Lower crime; sanity everywhere
- Restoration of police integrity
- Timely promotion of officers
- Compensation for slain officers
- Robust recruitment process
- Doom “Obinim” prophecies banned
- Key police reforms, rebranding & retooling
- Visibility of officers in our communities
Aside politics, he didn’t deserve to be removed! Good work done!”, he stated.
Although no official reason has been given for Dr Akuffo Dampare’s dismissal, sources suggest the move is part of a broader restructuring effort within the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement by the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President, in accordance with the Constitution and the Council of State, made the appointment.
“President John Dramani Mahama has in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 constitution and consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police. He replaces COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare”.
“COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service,” the statement said.
Information gathered also suggests both senior and junior ranks of the Ghana Police Service were unhappy with the regime of former Inspector General of Police(IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
It has been revealed that senior and junior ranks of the Ghana Police Service compared his leadership style to a dictator and draconian leader.
According to reports, Dr George Akuffo Dampare was tagged by some members of the Ghana Police Service as Togebe Agorkoli, Nebuchadnezzar and Herod.
Meanwhile, special aide to President John Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari has revealed why the President sacked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to Joyce Bawa Mogtari, President Mahama had to appoint a person loyal to him, especially when it comes to the safety and security of the country.
