The former minister for Housing and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has claimed the former New Patriotic Party government under Akufo-Addo and Bawumia didn’t do enough settings.
According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the NPP government did a lot of good work but failed to engage in political packaging for the optics.
Speaking on GHONE TV, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated, “We didn’t do too much settings, in fact, we think we didn’t do enough settings, I am telling you, we did a lot of work and one of the criticisms you will hear is that our communication wasn’t where it was supposed to be, so we think we didn’t do enough settings and creating impression around our staff, they are doing a lot of it”.
The NPP member of parliament was reacting to a video of Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson engaging traders at the Makola market before the 2025 budget reading.
He added, “Kojo Baah Wierdu minister of finance used to go to the market, to meet market women, going to the market to meet market women is good, but it doesn’t mean that the budget you will bring will answer the question of the market women.
Even if it answers the question, the implementation will satisfy them, so it will be nice for the optics and nice photos, but the sweetness of the pudding is in the eating, that is why we keep saying stop the propaganda and settings and come and let’s work”.
The member of parliament further added that, the NPP and minority were not invited to any of the dialogue being organised by the government.
He added, “A lot of it, the president came to tell us that he has invited us to the Economic Dialogue and that we should all show patriotism and come it was settings, no invitation came to us. Check from the minority, check from the NPP no invitation came to us.
There are a lot of settings, National Education Forum, they go around the country people are giving ideas, nice optics what are the final ones they have admitted they are going to work on”.
He however recognized the effectiveness of these engagements but warned the NDC that political packaging alone would not satisfy Ghanaians.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that the NPP would bring all its knowledge and experience to bear if the NDC listen and works with the ideas they are drawing their attention to it will serve them well.
