The majority leader in parliament Mahama Ayariga has sarcastically told the minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to see him in chambers if he wants President John Dramani Mahama not to give him an appointment.
According to Mahama Ayariga, Afenyo Markin has laboured for years but was never considered to be a minister under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government.
Mahama Ayariga’s comments come after Afenyo Markin questioned why the President has failed to furry the names of deputy ministerial nominees to the chamber.
Afenyo Markin on the floor of parliament stated, “The president whose government business you lead in this chamber, has promised that he was going to furry the names of deputy ministerial nominees to this chamber, he made this promise last week, he said in the course of the week.
Today is Tuesday what is going on, it is your duty, if you want to litigate it, litigate it, the promises made must be kept.”
Mahama Ayariga responding to Afenyo Markin stated, “ Mr Speaker, I thought that the minority leader has stayed long enough in this house, to understand the processes of this house, because Mr Speaker, the order of business make provision for a message from the president, when there is a message from the president.
There is no message from the president if he is desirous of a message he should tell us, Mr Speaker, if he wants an appointment from the President he should come and tell me privately.
I know he has never been a minister, and when his government was in power they never considered him for a minister, he laboured for them for years they never considered they never made him a minister and I think that his inability to become a minister has become a problem.
Mahama Ayariga further cut the minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin into sizes on the floor of parliament.
According to Mahama Ayariga, Alexander Afenyo-Markin must learn to behave properly in the chamber.
The majority leader stated, “Mr Speaker, the minority leader should learn to behave properly in this chamber.
This is a government that keeps its promises, so you cannot stand here and just throw your fingers and then point at and say we don’t keep our promises, the budget has just been brought, and we have not even yet considered it, we have not yet approved it, for us to implement our promises”.
He added, “You cannot always stand up and talk as if you are more than anybody in this chamber make this your last time”.
Meanwhile, the majority leader and minority leader have been in the news recently after Alexander Afenyo-Markin revived calls for the establishment of a new Parliamentary chamber and the building of members of parliament hospital.
Mahama Ayariga, rejected the proposal by the Minority Leader, citing the current financial crisis of the state as the reason.
