Sammi Awuku the member of parliament for Akuapem North has claimed the erratic power outages commonly known as dumsor might be the cause of the Adum PZ fire outbreak.
According to Sammi Awuku, the recent power outages if not checked can lead to fire outbreaks in his constituency and any other constituency.
Speaking on the floor of parliament he stated, “These recent power outages, it is not something we leave in the bag, they can happen in my constituency, I am not predicting or prophesying but they can also happen in Fomena”.
However, the member of parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana quickly fired back at Sammi Awuku.
Edem Agbana asserted that issues involving disasters are very sensitive issues and they must do away with partisanship in dealing with it.
He further noted that the Ghana National Fire Service are yet to bring out the real cause of the fire outbreak at Odum.
Reacting to Sammi Awuku’s comment on the floor of parliament, Edem Agbana stated, “I will want to humbly state that issues of disasters are very sensitive issues and they are issues that we must as much as possible do away with partisanship while dealing with it, that is why I am personally too pleased when even before an investigation report is out.
The conclusion out there as the maker of the statement sought to claim of paint is that it was caused by dumsor dumsor, I think it is important for us to wait for the authority to come out with the report and let us find out what caused the incident, while we address the challenges”.
Their comments come after a fire outbreak out at a two-story building housing several shops in the central business district of Adum in Kumasi.
The information gathered suggests the fire is at the popular Blue Light arena, close to Hello FM.
Reports suggest the fire started around 6 am and spread rapidly as fire officers made attempts to contain the blaze.
According to reports some shop owners attempted to defy the ravaging fire to salvage their goods.
It has also been revealed that a shop owner had to be forced out, and at a point, a ladder was needed to evacuate him from danger.
The information available suggests Most of the shops deal in mobile phones and accessories, jewellery, and clothing.
An eyewitness account claims the fires started from a touching electricity pole in the area, leading to a sparkle on the top floor of one of the buildings.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama engaged with some of the affected traders and pledged government support.
He detailed that action will be taken to help the affected individual who has lost their livelihoods.
He further called for an investigation into the cause of the fire.
