Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai has told the court that Angela Adjei Boateng, the wife of embattled former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene attempted to destroy evidence.
According to the Deputy Attorney General, Angela Adjei Boateng attempted to destroy evidence by carting suspected currency bills into suitcases on the night she was notified of the arrest of her husband.
Justice Srem Sai told the court on Friday, March 28, he stated, “Very finally, as deposed to in the affidavit in opposition, in paragraph 14(k), when the first applicant, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, was arrested, he was immediately put in touch with the second applicant, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng.
Between the time of notification of the first applicant’s arrest and the following morning, CCTV recordings reveal that the second applicant scattered suitcases believed to contain currency bills.
The argument here is that any bail condition more favourable than the current one poses the risk – one of flight risk and secondly interference with evidence and for that matter administration of justice,” he added.
Meanwhile, The Accra High Court has reduced the bail condition for the embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, from GHS120 million to GHS80 million.
Angela Adjei Boateng, his wife, however, continues to face bail set at GHS80 million, with two sureties required to be justified.
Both individuals are mandated to report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) three times a week.
Additionally, their travel has been restricted, requiring express permission from EOCO for any trips.
The couple were in custody following an investigation by EOCO into allegations of embezzlement, fraud, and illicit financial transactions.
Adu-Boahene, who served as NSB Director-General from 2017 until February 2025, is accused of diverting millions of Ghanaian cedis of state funds into personal accounts.
Additionally, Kwabena Adu-Boahene says he is innocent of the allegations levelled against him.
Adu-Boahene who was present at the Accra High Court for hearing today, was engaged by reporters who sought his remarks regarding the matter. “I have not been charged with anything yet; none whatsoever,” he said.
