Social activist Ralph, has been detained by police following an interaction with Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament, Stephen Amoah, at the forecourt of Parliament earlier today.
Ralph, speaking to reporters, alleges that his detention stems from his attempts to question the MP about his responsibilities and work within his constituency.
“I have consistently said that those we empower often use that power to intimidate us,” Ralph stated.
“There is nothing wrong with a citizen asking elected officials about their duties and performance. We have the right to question those we put in authority.”
According to Ralph, the incident occurred around 4 PM at Parliament House. “They picked me up after the interaction. The MP claims he felt threatened, and the Ghana Police Service is acting on that claim. I respect their need to do their job,” he said.
Ralph expressed uncertainty about the specific charges against him. “I don’t know the charge against me yet. They simply said he felt threatened. I am waiting for the MP to clarify the reasons behind my arrest. My only aim was to confirm what he has done in his constituency.”
Ralph emphasized his belief in citizens’ rights to hold their elected officials accountable. “I want Ghanaians to know that we have the right to question the people we put in authority. If he feels that’s a threat, I don’t have any issue with that. I only wanted to ask him about his work.”
The Ghana Police Service has yet to release an official statement regarding the detention. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
