The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) has warned against the unauthorized erection of billboards across the country.
According to the association, these unauthorized billboards which are not up to code are prone to collapsing and causing property damage and accidents.
The association noted that with the rainy season approaching, these unauthorized billboards are recipes for preventable disasters.
AAG President, Andrews Ackah has expressed frustration over the inaction, noting that discussions on the issue only gain attention when billboards fall during heavy rains, only to be ignored afterward.
He cited that despite repeated warnings and engagements with authorities, little has been done to regulate billboard placements, with many still being installed in hazardous areas such as pedestrian walkways and intersections.
With more rainfall expected, the association is calling for stricter regulations and proactive enforcement to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.
The intense rainfall submerged roads, disrupted traffic, and caused billboards to collapse. At the A&C Mall in East Legon, a carport reportedly caved in due to the strong winds and heavy rain, adding to the destruction.
Residents and commuters were left stranded as floodwaters made several roads impassable. Many have called for improved drainage systems to curb the recurring issue of flooding in the capital.
