The National President of the School Feeding Caterers Association, Nana Otu Sakyi-Amo Twafohene has revealed the 2 cedis increase in school feeding fees is not enough.

According to Nana Otu Sakyi-Amo Twafohene although it is not enough they are going to manage it.

He further thanked President John Dramani Mahama for increasing feeding fees for basic school students from GHC 1.50 to GHC 2.00.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the finance minister during an X-space engagement on March 9 announced the government’s plan to increase the school feeding grant.

According to the School Feeding Caterers, they have been crying for the increment for a long time.

Speaking to Citi News, the National President of the School Feeding Caterers Association, Nana Otu Sakyi-Amo Twafohene stated, “We were really happy when we heard that the fee will be increased. We are praying that the JHS will also have a fair share of the roll-out very soon.

“It’s every government’s priority to sustain a school feeding program, and one of the important things that a government can implement to sustain the program is increasing the fee per child”.

“We say thank you to H.E John Dramani Mahama for listening to caterers. We have been crying for this increment for a long time. 2 cedis is not enough, but we will still manage it”, the National President added.

Meanwhile, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection during her vetting revealed the NDC government aims to extend school feeding to private schools.

She asserted that President Mahama is committed to not only maintaining the program but also ensuring the quality of food is upheld.

According to the Gender minister-designate, the NDC manifesto clearly outlines their goal to address the bottlenecks in school feeding and capitation grants.

Speaking during her vetting by the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey stated, “Our manifesto clearly outlines our goal to address the bottlenecks in school feeding and capitation grants. We even aim to extend the program to private schools,” she disclosed.

“From my checks, about 40 days of payments have been made, but 31 days remain in arrears. This is something I am committed to resolving”, she detailed.

The Gender minister-designate also revealed her commitment to ensuring the quality of food provided through the school feeding program.

“One of my strengths is fostering dialogue with all involved to achieve sustainable outcomes. With payments already initiated, I am confident that the president is committed to not only maintaining the program but also ensuring the quality of food is upheld”, she added.
