The former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been described as a wanted criminal by Wikipedia a free online encyclopedia, created and edited by volunteers.
According to Ken Ofori Atta’s overview on Wikipedia, he has been labelled as a Ghanaian investment banker and a wanted criminal who served as the Minister for Finance.
Part of the Wikipedia overview reads, “He is also a wanted criminal by the Ghanaian authorities and has been declared as a fugitive from justice”.
Wikipedia’s description comes on the back of the OSP Kissi Agyebeng declaring Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive for failing to appear for interrogation into corruption-related investigations.
Ken Ofori Atta has been accused of causing financial loss to the state in several dealings including the construction of the famous National Cathedral and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA’s) – Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao and Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances.
The OSP during a press conference stated, “The fugitive’s name is Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta. Mr Ofori-Atta is 66 years old. He was the minister of Finance of the republic between 2017 and 2024. Mr Ofori-Atta left the jurisdiction on or around 2 January 2025.
On 24th January 2025, the OSP communicated to Mr Ofori-Atta that the OSP considered him a suspect with respect to four of the cases above. Mr Ofori-Atta was asked to attend in person on Monday 10th February 2025 at 10GMT for an interview…Mr Ofori-Atta instructed his lawyers to inform the OSP that he was out of the jurisdiction indefinitely on medical grounds…”
Wikipedia further detailed the charges levelled against Ken Ofori-Atta as investigation under his criminal conduct are underway,
Wikipedia stated, “ 1. GRA–SML Contract: Ofori-Atta is accused of authorizing over ₵1 billion in payments to Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML) in 2019 without the approval of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA). 2. National Cathedral Project: He released ₵142.7 million for the project in 2020, with allegations of mismanagement by the Board of Trustees. 3. ECG–BXC Contract Termination: Ofori-Atta’s role in the abrupt termination of this electricity distribution contract is under review.
4. Ambulance Procurement: The OSP investigates potential irregularities in procuring 307 ambulances for the National Ambulance Service. And 5. GRA Tax Refund Account: Transactions from the tax refund account are being scrutinized for financial misconduct”.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has released a wanted poster for former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
