Some students of Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary were made to destroy their seized mobile phones during a school assembly.
According to the reports, the move purportedly comes as a measure to deter other students from smuggling mobile phones which are prohibited, into the boarding school.
In a video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL, some students of the Pope John SHS were captured destroying their smartphones by hitting a stone on them, while other students watched on.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the trending video, one X user stated, “ Why destroy the phones? The school authorities could have just confiscated the phones and kept them in safe custody and released them to the students at the end of the term. What about that?”.
Another user wrote, “Pope John Senior High School operates under the strong support of the Roman Catholic Church, establishing clear guidelines for all students. Those who are unable to adapt to these standards will need to find an alternative path”.
“Welcome to Ghana where nothing can be produced but the little we have or import is in constant destruction. 💔There should be a better way to make good use of those phones”, an extra user added.
However, some users have also defended the schools’ action saying, “ Simple instructions don’t bring mobile phones to school. The telcos mounted phone booths in schs but de students have destroyed dem just so dey can send phones 📱 to school”.
