The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has successfully completed a critical pipeline maintenance project, restoring gas transportation services to Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
The four-week maintenance operation involved essential offshore pipeline cleaning, thorough inspections, and subsea valve replacements.
To facilitate the work, gas supply to Cotonou (Benin), Lomé (Togo), and Tema (Ghana) was temporarily suspended.
Despite the complexities of the operation, WAPCo completed the project ahead of schedule while maintaining the highest safety and efficiency standards.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 28, 2025 WAPCo’s Managing Director, Michelle Burkett, commended the team for their professionalism and dedication, which ensured the timely and successful completion of the maintenance work.
While the temporary shutdown led to short-term disruptions, WAPCo expressed appreciation for the cooperation of stakeholders, including the governments of Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, and Togo, as well as maritime and regulatory authorities, customers, and host communities.
As a key infrastructure facilitating the transportation of natural gas from Nigeria to its West African neighbors, the pipeline plays a crucial role in powering industries, households, and essential services across the region.
With gas supply now fully restored, WAPCo has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and reliable energy solutions while upholding the highest industry standards.
