The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has stated he will seek legal redress regarding the termination of appointments and recruitment made after December 7.
A letter dated February 10, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah directed all Heads of government institutions to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.
Julius Debrah wrote, “Consistent with Government pronouncement in relation to the near end of tenure appointments and recruitments, I wish to bring to your attention that all appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after 7th December 2024 are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles,”
“Accordingly, all Heads of Government Institutions are hereby requested to take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments”, the statement added.
Reacting to the termination of last-minute appointments Vincent Ekow Assafuah issued a letter.
Vincent Ekow Assafuah in the letter noted that the Mahama government promised to implement a certain 24-hour economy plan but is rather focused on political appointment drama and endless committee formations than on actual governance.
He wrote, “ It is deeply unfortunate and unacceptable that young people, duly recruited by a properly constituted Ghanaian government, are now being dismissed without just cause. This is nothing but political victimization, and I refuse to stand by and watch it happen.
As a young MP, I have decided to fight for the affected youth. We are taking this battle to court to ensure that this already failing government does not have unchecked power to unjustly terminate hardworking young employees.
If this government is serious about job creation, it should be expanding opportunities, not displacing workers. Sacking people and replacing them does nothing to reduce unemployment- only deepens economic hardship”, parts of his statement read.
Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu the Minister of State for Government Communication has revealed the former NPP government under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government bypassed due process in making last-minute appointments.
