At least two persons have been burnt to death after a Kumasi-bound bus was set ablaze.
According to reports, the Kumasi-bound bus travelling from Pulmakom was intercepted and set ablaze yesterday afternoon February 14, 2025, by suspected Mamprusi bandits at Walewale.
The attack took place just meters away from a police barrier.
Although police officers were nearby, they could not intervene as they were unarmed, but they called for backup.
Unfortunately, by the time the backup arrived, including both police and military, it was too late, as the bandits had already fled.
Meanwhile, reports also revealed a five-month-old baby sadly lost her life in Bawku after some assailants forcibly took her from her mother and violently crushed her to the ground, killing her instantly.
These horrific incidents mark yet another casualty in the ongoing conflict in Bawku and along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
Despite intensified efforts by security forces to quell the unrest and safeguard commuters, armed assailants continue to unleash deadly attacks, deepening fear and uncertainty among residents and travellers in the region.
There has been an escalation of violence following the resurgence of a long-standing chieftaincy conflict, sparked by the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile.
Abagre fled Bawku after an arrest warrant was issued against him following his contested installation as chief in Nalerigu, a High Court ruling in Kumasi on October 17, 2024, nullified the warrant, allowing him to resurface.
