Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs has accused the members of the minority caucus of blatant acts of defiance against the leadership of the Appointments Committee Chairman on Thursday, January 30.
According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the situation was regrettable and an embarrassment to the legislative process.
He added that his visitors and him were subjected to unwarranted hostility.
Appearing before the investigative committee probing the vetting chaos, Ablakwa detailed, “It was a regrettable situation, not only was the Appointments Committee Chairman’s authority disregarded, but my visitors and I were also subjected to unwarranted hostility. This is not how parliamentary proceedings should be conducted”.
“Parliament must be a place of order and mutual respect, yet what transpired that night was a blatant act of defiance against leadership”, he added.
Ablakwa further called on the committee to ensure that such misconduct does not happen again, encouraging MPs to maintain the codes of parliamentary democracy.
“Moving forward, we must reaffirm our commitment to discipline and respect for leadership. Undermining the Appointments Committee Chairman sets a dangerous precedent that must not be encouraged”, he added.
