Some ten (10) years ago, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo begun investigations into a bribery scandal in Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) which had Alexander Afenyo-Markin in the middle.
The MP, was accused of extorting money from the Agricultural Development Bank to allegedly abandon a case he is pursuing in court against the bank’s Initial Public Offer.
This came after a leaked tape on which a voice resembling that of the MP, is heard discussing taking money from ADB and playing legal gymnastics to get the case thrown out.
Afenyo-Markin was summoned before a three-member panel to determine the truth of the alleged extortion of Ghc25,000 from ADB before dropping a law suit Afeno-Markin and his client had brought against the bank.
Also, the probe was to verify if Afenyo-Markin’s dealings with the bank received prior consent from his client.
The probe is said to have taken place in Akufo-Addo’s Nima residence and had some notable NPP members who were mentioned in the leak tape present.
Afenyo-Markin on the other hand denied all wrongdoings, insisting the tapes were doctored.
